What changed hands?

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. The auction house described this as a record at the time; that is not a present-day record claim.

Start with chassis 3413 GT

A model name is only the beginning of identifying a collector car. This result belongs to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO identified as chassis 3413 GT in RM Sotheby’s Monterey report. Keeping that identifier alongside the amount makes a later comparison more useful.

An old record needs its date

The auction house presented the result as a record in 2018. Repeating that title without its date would turn a historical statement into a current claim. Our follow-up looks at a later Mercedes-Benz transaction without implying that the Ferrari itself changed hands again.

Read the number carefully

An auction result captures a particular object, a particular sale and the buyers competing on that occasion. It does not establish the value of every similar object, or what this one would sell for today.

Our selection keeps historical results separate from asking prices and estimates. Where the cited report does not break out fees, we say so rather than inventing a hammer price.

What does “source reviewed” mean?

We checked the published report against the amount and object listed here. That does not independently authenticate the object or confirm settlement of the transaction.
