THE STORIES BEHIND EXTRAORDINARY PRICES
MILLIONLORE.

THE PRICE GUIDE

One object.
Several different prices.

Know which number you are reading before comparing two auction headlines.

Estimate

An auction estimate is a projected range before a sale. It is neither a guaranteed result nor proof that a buyer paid that amount.

Hammer price

The winning bid at the close of an auction. Buyer fees and taxes can make the final bill different.

Result including buyer’s premium

This combines the hammer price with the auction house’s buyer fee. Do not assume every published total also includes taxes or shipping. Follow the terms and wording of that sale.

Asking price

A seller can ask for any amount. A listing alone does not establish a completed transaction.

Current value

A historical result is useful evidence, but not a current appraisal. Condition, provenance, market conditions, and the identity of the object matter. Two objects with the same model name can have very different histories.

Our comparison rule

Read the date, currency and price basis together. Our opening rankings order selected reported USD results without inflation adjustments. We flag missing fee information and do not mix an estimate into a table of completed sales.
