What changed hands?
Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A. Charity sale benefiting Duchenne muscular dystrophy research. Original sale in CHF. USD figure is approximate contemporaneous equivalent.
A one-off for charity
The Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A was produced as a unique piece for the Only Watch charity auction, benefiting research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Its stainless steel case was a deliberate choice — Patek Philippe rarely uses steel for its grand complications, making this piece doubly unusual and doubly desirable.
20 complications in one case
The watch features 20 complications, including a Grande Sonnerie with Westminster chimes, a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, and an acoustic alarm. The case is reversible, with one side showing the time and the other displaying the calendar. It took seven years to develop. The CHF 31 million result made it the most expensive watch ever sold at auction, a record that still stands.
Read the number carefully
An auction result captures a particular object, a particular sale and the buyers competing on that occasion. It does not establish the value of every similar object, or what this one would sell for today.
Our selection keeps historical results separate from asking prices and estimates. Where the cited report does not break out fees, we say so rather than inventing a hammer price.

What does “source reviewed” mean?
We checked the published report against the amount and object listed here. That does not independently authenticate the object or confirm settlement of the transaction.
