What changed hands?

2026 Ferrari Luce "Tailor Made". Most valuable new car ever sold at auction. Estimated at $1,100,000. Designed under direction of Sir Jony Ive. Proceeds benefit the Ferrari Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.

Ferrari's electric first, sold for charity

The Ferrari Luce 'Tailor Made' is the marque's first fully electric vehicle, and this particular example was a one-off personalization designed under the direction of Sir Jony Ive. It sold at RM Sotheby's Monterey for $40 million, with all proceeds directed to The Ferrari Foundation for educational initiatives.

Two records at once

The sale established the Luce as both the most expensive new car ever sold at auction and the most expensive electric vehicle ever sold. With 1,036 brake horsepower from four electric motors, the car had been estimated at just $1.1 million. The charity context and the one-off personalization distinguish this result from a standard production car transaction.

Read the number carefully

An auction result captures a particular object, a particular sale and the buyers competing on that occasion. It does not establish the value of every similar object, or what this one would sell for today.

Our selection keeps historical results separate from asking prices and estimates. Where the cited report does not break out fees, we say so rather than inventing a hammer price.
